I have always appreciated subdivisions like La Tierra Escondida. The care that the developers take to maintain the natural landscapes, while adding their own walking paths, gathering areas, and playground facilities all the while maintaining the seclusion of a luxurious, gated community.
The home owners in La Tierra Escondida have a natural gold mine at their doorstep.
In other words, not only is this subdivision well developed with plenty of great looking homes, but it offers quick and easy access to hiking and biking that few subdivisions offer.
One of the best and most easily accessible outdoor areas in Las Cruces is the Tortugas Mountain, or "A" Mountain, as so many NMSU graduates call it.
Tortugas Mountain has several trails that circle around it for hiking or mountain biking, all with varying degrees of difficulty, for the enjoyment of novices and experts alike. Several lead to the top where the elevation reaches 4,931 feet. From the top of this mountain you can see just about everything! It's like you are flying over Las Cruces and looking at the growth in Talavera, Sonoma Ranch and Las Alturas. The space between the mountains and the development is amazing to look at. As a long time resident of Las Cruces, I appreciate open spaces and seeing the arroyos and trails from above is breathtaking; as is the lush Rio Grande Valley and everything in between.
There are currently two parking areas, one on the East and the other on the West with another planned on the South side. It wasn't until I was atop the mountain one day looking south that I realized just how close La Tierra Escondida was. Then it occurred to me that if you live in the right place you really can access the desert from your doorstep. There are many primitive trails through the desert that one can take if you live in the right place.
From La Tierra Escondida you can take a hike or bike North and see the arroyos, plants and animals of the Chihuahuan Desert. The best part is that you could end atop a mountain giving you 360 degree views of Dona Ana County.
La Teirra Escondida is surrounded by open space. Much of this space is owned by the Bureau of Land Management and offers great horseback riding, hiking or mountain biking.
This subdivision has lush natural vegetation and an abundance of wildlife. It includes tennis courts, fitness and walking paths, and equestrian trails.
There are plenty of lots available in La Tierra Escondida. I have built several homes there. I hope you enjoy looking at some of my best work and if you are looking for a new home in Las Cruces let me know. I would love to work with you.
