When we decided to buy a new home this summer, we looked at about 150 homes – from Sonoma Ranch to Mesilla. None had what we were looking for. Then we walked through the fabulous front door of JB and Erin Stearns’ Spring 2004 Showcase home. We were instantly awe-struck. My wife and I moved to Las Cruces in July 2002 from Oregon where we had previously built two homes, so being new to the Southwest and the style of homes here, we were pretty overwhelmed. When Peter and Iris Wyman sold their house and all of their belongings in New Jersey and hopped in a Winnebago to travel across America back in 2001, they had no idea where they would eventually settle down, When they stopped in Las Cruces in April 2002, Peter and Iris toured the Showcase of Homes to satisfy their curiosity. Thank you, thank you……………….thank you JB!!!!! Our handicap accessible home is just what we needed. Our youngest child has Ullrich Muscular Dystrophy and we were in desperate need of a new home that would accommodate his needs and the needs he would have as he gets older. JB was willing to work with us and to provide a house that not only meets his needs, but functions like a dream home for the rest of our family. Our house has 2 standard bedrooms and 2 master suites, a bi-level center island to accommodate a wheelchair, 2 automatic doors, accessible light switches, beautiful and durable flooring, custom special needs toilet and shower, and a wide open floor plan to minimize obstructions and allow for a more free flowing traffic pattern for all 5 in our family. We could not have worked with a better contractor as he listened to our needs and accommodated our son’s special needs excellently. While our home is handicap accessible it is very comfortable. We wanted the accessibility to be something that was incorporated into our home but that would not stand out as the main feature. JB met this need by incorporating intricate ceiling treatments, beautiful cabinet work, molding, hand texturing etc. His attention to detail is impeccable. JB was very pleasant to work with and would allow for any questions and suggestions along the way. He wanted to build us a house that felt like a home and that we would be pleased with for years to come.
